in tune but not on time

Classic scott manoeuver, missing his flight and all out of charlotte. In the meantime, I've thrown up the first night of the delusions playing the gothic back in october 2003. If you don't know by now, it's on COTapers.

spot

Word on the streets - expect spot in september!

where the week went

The power's out at the office, so I figure now is a good time to get everyone caught up before my impending vacation. Let's go backwards, shall we... Last night stephanie prepared the most stellar of dinners, and we took in a viewing of one of the finest feature films ever, 'better off dead'.

$2

I also finally received my transit, and got around to transfering the bts dats. Look for the 7/11 show, along with the brett netson set up on COtapers later tonight.

little guy

Spent most of sunday morning packing until we headed over the balsam ladies' abode for another happening brunch. Later in the day, we rounded up the remaining attendees for a pool session back at the wimbeldon just in time for rain. Luckily we were still able to get our swim on for a bit. Later steph and I took in a viewing of the good ol' Lebowski which we missed at the outdoor cinema on friday.

Saturday steph and I rode our bikes down to the farmer's market where we met up with jacq & dylan. Our main goals were to get some fresh mint, and get some lunch action. We succeeded on both counts, and got to witness some burnout get naked and try dance to some live music where a whole bunch of children where gathered. As you can imagine, that did not go over so well with the parents. Police and handcuffs soon followed. Went back to my hut and made up some killer mojitos with the last remaining bottle of rum that j&d brought back from st. kitts that I had been saving for their anniversary. We capped of the day with a feast of Q & margs back at their hut.

Thursday & friday were fairly low-key after a fantastic dinner at the med with stephanie on wednesday...

silence when you're shouting at me

My weekend was fairly casual. I went to see A Scanner Darkly on friday, and walked out about 50 minutes in. I was expecting WAY too much maybe, and I guess I should have known better since keanu reeves was the star. The cool animation technique could not disguise the abysmal acting and lackluster plot.

Saturday I hunted down someone to help me transfer the bts dats, which proved to be unsuccessful. I'd recorded at 48khz, and he played back and transferred to wav at 41.1khz, so my 120 minute tape was 129 minutes long as a wav file = no good. I sorted him with a sixer anyway for effort points. Spent some QT with lauren at hillside, did laundry, grilled out and watched What's New Pussycat with my dad, which was f-in hilarious.

Started packing / throwing things out on sunday. It's amazing the stuff you can accumulate, and some the junk I managed to move more than once. Also found & ordered the piece of gear that will let me transfer my digital audio direct from my dat deck to my lappy, so I don't have to worry about getting my HHB repaired anytime soon.

Caught the H Foundation at the shelter on a very rainy saturday night. Well at least caught hipp-e. Halo was likely too preocupied with sundries to bother spinning, making just two appearances behind the decks, sans headphones, twiddling eq's for a spell before disappearing off again all rock star and shit. Some other rock star dj was spinning accross the street which pleasantly kept the crowd down. Standing on the curb waiting for the light to turn on the way home, me & robert had the ol' car-drives-through-a-puddle and soaks-you-to-the-bone thing that only happens in the movies happen to us.

Sunday found me at the balsam ladies' brunch, where I'd hoped to catch the world cup final. Of course they didn't have a tv, so I just wondered about what was going on over there in berlin while skarfing down mimosas, and other breakfast type foods. As it turns out, it was probably better not to have invested my time in cheering on france as zidane brokedown, and they sourly lost in the final shootout.

Late nights on a monday & tuesday really throw off the rest of your week. But it was entirely worth it for the built to spill double header at the fox, capping off the first leg of their current tour. Doug brought back his red strat and was on fire. They openend the show both nights with a drummerless 'car' in honor of Andy Capps, the original bts drummer who passed away on the same day as desmond dekker right before memorial day. Highlights included a couple of brand new tracks, longside a gladiators cover, and a refurbishing of the halo benders track, 'bombshelter part 2', with calvin johnson appearing on the video screen doing the monologue bits. The screen was in use the rest of the show to showcase original art by Mike Scheer, who did the cover artwork for the latest bts disc, as well as the three treepeople albums from wayback. Dude has a lot of art.

Brett Netson was on third guitar duties again, and also opened the show both nights with Erin Jorgenson accompanying on marimba, Jim Roth on lap steel. The second night he opened with 'opel'in honor of Syd Barrett's passing, and the performance featured a special appearance by Doug on the melodica for the last tune. Mike B has the first night up on CO Tapers already, and although my tapes turned out great, my HHB crapped out on me so there will be a bit of a delay in my getting them out there for consumption.

Here's the Jay Vollmar print from the nights:

B+

So that is my grizade from my class which thankfully ended late wednesday evening. Phew! Over and done for now. In celebration I went and found a new apartment to rent come the end of the month. Swanky, couple of bedrooms, 9th & north, which is a stones throw away from the seriously footy foot of the foothills and the downtown pearl street area. I was largely encouraged by the legendary Gdubs bould decision to losen anchor in the SE and set sail to dryer land. I cannot wait for his touchdown in these parts - hooOOOOooorah!

I lost track with you, my readers this past couple of weeks (if in fact that should even be plural). No excuses save for the ones I've burdened with you before. Let's see, france is in the f-in actual final now. Tip of my hat to that. Derrick threw a full on PBR keg rager at his jiffy pop broomfield hut on monday, chaos logically ensued and eventually found me being wisked away in the back of a convertable to gunbarrel, of all places, for some hot tub action. Completely oblivious that kevin & laura were still on their way. Heidi & Steph were kind enough to circle back to grab them and re-route them to the 'barrel', and we capped it off from there.

Tuesday was a wash, sleeping, studying, but eventaully heading to hillside for a family 'to do' done right. Never did catch fireworks... shame on me.

Right now I'm half helping robert & angie repaint their dining room. But not after birthday festivities for beth's 26th beginning at rhumba and finishing at bacarro ealier this evening.

vive la france!

Les grenouilles (derogative term used with much respect, mind you) came correct against their filla brazillia foes who pretty much didn't show up on the pitch earlier today. Hoorah Henry. So this make the quarterfinals a stricly european affair. I was high schooling during the 1990 cup, and my friends took that shit WAY serious. In an umpteenth floor of my german/italian mate Illario's posh Monaco residence, we witnessed the place nearly trashed for every good and bad play on the night (all this while germany beat argentina, mind you!). I'm hopinig it will come down to Germany vs. France in the final. and as much as I have a soft spot the french, to see germany win would be a great exercise in civil unrest debauched.

Cheers go out to heidi, steph, et al for having a thumbs up dinner party, edgewood style, thursday night. Had to rest it out last night, kind of working on my final paper. Met up with Jacq & Dyl on pearl later today to check out the new tequila bar, Tahoma. This being the third and last stop on the night, we revelled in both praising and lambasting the decor, menu, etc. When you do end up there, get the chili/garlic/onion thingy for an app and you'll be stoked. That coupled with a four page tequila menu and you really can't go wrong.

Another procrastination session is in full effect as I jot down these memoires, and finally got around to making some of bobble's long lost archives suddenly more accesible again... (sorry 4 the D-lay S23)
