doe a deer

The roads weren't too bad and I was able to make it ito the office just fine. I'll have to wait and play in the snow tomorrow. Here's a deer that was running around outside my office today:

xmas 2006

Once we got back from evergreen, stephanie was kind enough to help me out with my last minute wrapping before we headed to jacq & dylan's for xmas eve dinner. We had a great spread with wines, cheeses, olives, meats, and muscles over pasta. It started snowing again and the broncos eaked by a win over cincinatti keeping our wild card hopes alive. Headed to the church on the Hill for the requisite family-church-on-xmas-eve outing. Headed home for some hot totties and gift exchanging with stephanie. Up bright and early and off to hillside for family xmasing. I made out this year with lots of wonderful gifts, food, and company.

blizzard 2006

Was able to leave work at noon wednesday, in the knick of time - the roads were horrible. People were sliding all over and getting stuck. After doing some work from home, I cross-country skiied over to the edgewood ladies crew hut for storm party 2006. Luckily stpeh's car was a road worthy 4 wheel drive machine so we were actually able to re-up on food & bevies later that evening. After the beer was gone and the food all eaten, it was time for roof-boarding, which basically consisted of nolan & I taking turns snowboarding/skiing off the roof of the edgewood abode.

It continued snowing through the morning. Once it kind of cleared I hopped back on my skis and headed to north boulder park accross the street from my house for some more x-country ski action. Cleared my car out so I could get into work friday, but alas when friday rolled around, it wouldn't start. Unfortunately it was situated in such a way that made it pretty tricky for anyone to help with a jump, so I wound up working from home until finally my neighbor, sherry and I were able to get it going. I still had last minute shopping to do, so I went and picked up jacq and headed to the flatirons mall which was a madhouse.

Saturday morning steph & I headed up to keystone for a day on the slopes. There was plenty of fresh powder in the trees and it was a solid day. Headed to her mom's hut in evergreen that night, and dealt with the unplowed triple switchback driveway. Were able to clear a single walkway with the snowblower and salt, which as we were leaving on sunday, the postmaster general and a cameraman were walking up. I was then interviewed about how it made me feel that they went through the trouble to deliver a package on sunday. I was somewhat ambivalent as I didn't live there, but feigned enthusiasm for the sake of holiday cheer.

Gotta love the winter storm. Hopefully we'll be sent home soon...

holiday parties part 2

Took in another ...and you will know us by the Trail of Dead show on friday at the Fox. This was the last show on their current tour, and it was a rager (set list and torrent link coming soon). Attended to school work saturday in the a.m. before heading to the 'acton' dinner party at stephanie miller's hut down the road. Sunday we celebrated xmakah at jacq & dyls where we exchanged gifts with jean since she was leaving for massachusetts.

Had class monday, barely got my paper done in time. Tuesday dylan & I took the 3rd Street van to pick up all of derrick's furniture he left at his old place to move into jean's new place in denver. What we thought would be a couch and some end tables turned into a full van load.

Looks like trey got busted while driving around New York earlier this morning with a bunch of percoset, hydrocodone, and xanax. At least it appears he's off the raw dog...

holiday party weekend

Had guys night with GW on friday, hitting up connor o'neils before girls night inadvertently found us at the west end. Then we all walked back to my hut and listened to records. Later on my crazy neighbor yelled at one of my arriving guests for knocking on my door.

Saturday morning sts9 tix went onsale for the 5 nights at the boulder theater in march, and that's when I realized I left my tab open at the west end. Good thing steph & GW were on the ball and picked up tix for the fri & sat shows. Post ticketing, we had brunch with the edgewood ladies crew.

Then it was off to meet the fam for the CU xmas concert put on by the school of music. Immediately following the performance, was the office party dinner at matam fez, a moroccan restaurant. We sat on pillows and ate with our hands. I had the hare for my main course, it tasted like chicken.

Then we met up with jerc & kerr at trilogy. It wasn't too crowded and the dj was decent so we stuck around for a while before meeting up with donna et al and slummed it at the scumdowner. I also went back to the west end to pick up my credit card and close my tab, but they claimed they didn't have it.

Phew - busy weekend. Cancelled my card, and so far there have been no erroneous charges. I spent most of sunday lying around watching football and (kind of) doing homework for last night's class.

My google toolbar running on IE at work has blocked 10,000 pop ups as of today:

This may be a lot or not that many. I think most all of them came from cnn.com anyway.

"I'm still amazed at how enthusiastic people can get about alcohol and robots." One of these guys would be a nifty addition to any kitchen, even if they're a little on the cumbersome side. Santa?

hump day tune roundup

sonic youth - Destroyed Room: B-sides and rarities collection. It does have one previous album track from 1995, the Diamond Sea, but this version has a different sprawling ending clocking in at over 25 minutes. Mostly instrumental (save for a couple of tracks), the songs vary from minimal dissonance to unrealized heady jams. Think sonic musak.

archie bronson outfit - Derdang Derdang: Remind me a bit of Clinic's pulsey vibe, but without the eerie keys & surgical masks. Their video for 'cherry lips' revitalizes the dying fancy of the hula hoop. You can check it out on their space.

swan lake - Beast Moans: A super group of sorts made up of Dan Bejar (destroyer & new pornographers), Spencer Krug (wolf parade & Sunset Rubdown), and Carey Mercer (frog eyes). The result, as you might expect, sounds a lot a mixture of all said bands, but mostly Destroyer meets Rubdown affair. This one's hot.

trans am - Sex Change: It's usually hit or miss with these guys. I still go back, becuase they are a fierce live act. I caught them at the EARL long ago, and when they blew out the PA, the drummer kept playing while they tried to fix it - Perseverence with a capital P. On disc these guys come accross as potentail instrumental soundtrack auteurs from 20 year old movies. My fave track is '4,738 regrets'. Damn that's a lot.

dave fischoff - The Crawl: This guy read the book and passed the exam on how to sound just like Her Space Holiday.

young love - Too Young to Fight: WTF? I cried tears of ridicule when I listened to this.

ol' fezziwig griswald vacation

Old man winter provided us with plenty of snow for our family retreat to breckenridge. Took the day off friday and rode keystone before heading to the condo. It snowed all day, and the 36 hours of skiing competition was going on - fun stuff. The rest of the gang joined us that night, and after a brief galavant through the village we cashed out. The sun was peeking out saturday morning, and stephanie & devin met up with us at breck. The boys & girls parted ways, and we got a solid morning in. I haven't road breck in years, so it was cool to explore new territory again. After lunch the weather took a turn, and there were white-out conditions the rest of the afternoon, but we rode on anyway, exploring the terrain under the 'highest chair lift in north america' on Peak 7. Apres ski we had apres ski at the condo and then dinner at mi casa downtown. Lauren and I got in a fight then went to bed, par for the course. Returned sunday, and I knocked off my portion of a team project for class. Had class last night, got an 'A' on my first paper, then watched 'heroes' on the vcrtron when I got home.
