xmas 08

Xmas eve we hosted dinner at milo consisting of caprese salad, fondue, and mussels. Topped the evening off with egg nog and then steph and I exchanged gifts.

Xmas day we rolled out of bed kinda late (since it was a late night), hurriedly wrapped presents and scooted over to your hillside. Had skier’s french toast for breakfast, exchanged gifts with the fam. Had our traditional salmon/cheese plate for a snack, and then dinner we feasted on honey baked ham, roasted root vegetables, mac ‘n cheese. My parents got that game Apples to Apples for xmas, so we played after dinner. Friday was another day off so we bummed around town (after we braved the mall crowd for a couple of clothing exchanges exchanges). Had lunch at the Rio, and shopped along pearl. Went home and I think had pizza for dinner. Saturday we headed up to A-Basin with GW. It was freezing, the snow was so-so, and I was half-asleep. Kind of a wash. Sunday I did some homework.

winter solstice

Had our holiday party for work at Dolan's thursday after work. It was over early so I was in pretty good shape for work the next day. Chilled out at steph's that night, and then headed up to Beaver Creek with her the next morning. It took a while to get up there because the roaods were in bad shape and it was snowing, but still managed to get on the slopes by 9. Epic powder day! It was extremely cold as well, but maneuvering the deep snow kept you pretty warm. The ride home was slow going as well, and we got a late start back taking some catwalks to the car which, for all intents and purposes, were completely flat. Apré ski we headed over to andy's for some bevys, and sunday night jen & jeff had a winter solstice party.

mercury revelries

I was up late monday & tuesday last week doing homework I didn't get to over the weekend, so when this weekend rolled around I was determined to get my work done early. And that's what I did friday night and most of saturday. Steph came over for dinner, then went out with some friends in denver for a while, and got back just in time to beat the worst of the snow storm. Appropriately enough, Fargo was on the tele.

Sunday morning I finished up my work (I have two presentations to give tonight) and then went to the CU dean's xmas party at the alumni building. It seemed like it was over before we knew it. Then we walked over to the Sink with one of her co-workers and had a brew before the Mercury Rev show at the Fox. It was a light crowd, but the Rev rocked it anyway, playing mostly post '98 material, with one oldie thrown in for good measure. After the show we grabbed some slices at Abo's since the xmas party was all aps and we were starving.

rank & file

I won some free tickets to the English Beat last night from one of those contests where you email a specified email addy with a certain subject. Greg & I got there too early and had to suffer through a pair of lame openers, one of which was the roadie singing acoustic reggae cover songs. No worries though, because the Beat came correct, playing all their hits - 'Can't Get Used to Losing You', 'Mirror in the Bathroom', 'Save it for Later' (complete with a pearl jam 'better man' interlude) - and even threw in 'Tenderness' by General Public, but unfortunately no 'Rotating Head' :(

I took a bunch of video, but can't seem to transfer the larger files without the dumb software that comes with the camera, so for now here's a taste of 'Twist & Crawl':

breck 08

Headed up to Keystone immediately after work friday. It was snowing and the roeahds were bad so we didn't get a chance to get any runs in before the madness of Girl Talk began. There were almost twice as many folks out for this one than the last two, and it was pretty crowded. We left a bit early to get a jump on the wasted crowd. Luckily we didn't have far to go since the fam was staying at a condo over in Breck. We watched Ferris Bueller when we got there, and then called it a night. Went riding saturday, and luckily they opened chair 6 so we split up with the gang and spent the rest of the day over up there, despite the bitter wind. Got back to the condo, hit the outdoor hot tub, then did some shopping in town before dinner. Left early sunday and stopped by steph's mom's on the way, then I hit the books.

thanksgiving 08

You gotta love short weeks! Chilled out wednesday night, and steph came over to prep her stratta dish. Most of the fam came over thursday morning for breakfast, and then we all went for a bike ride down the Coal Creek path to work up an appetite.

t-day bike ride

Cleaned up and headed over to hillside for the t-day feast which was delicious as usual. After dinner we headed back to boulder to pick move greg's truck and feed the rugglator. Friday we picked up some 'black friday' duraflames, which weren't actually on sale, then went back to hillside to watch the Colorado/Nebraska game. It was a compelling game which we almost won until we fell apart at the end. Since we got caught up in the game, we got a late start up to Keystone, but managed to get on run in from top to bottom before the Devotchka show. It was snowing like crazy, and before their set there were a pair of fire dancers performing on stage which was pretty neat to watch while it snowed. Devotchka played a great upbeat set, and the snow did not let up the whole time.

Afterwards we headed to steph's mom's in Evergreen which took a while because the rooaeds were in bad shape. When we got to town past midnight, we were able to pick up some 3.2 and a cheesy movie from one of those kiosks. We mowed turkey sandys and hit the hay. Saturday was back to studying for a while then we watched some James Bond films. Sunday I did a bunch of research, and went to bed early.
