parts, labor, and other revelries

I picked up steph after work friday and then we headed to Bacaro to sync up with everyone for her birthday happy hour(s). After a few pitchers of sangria and plates full of tapas, we headed over to the B-side Lounge for a bit then ended up at the scumdowner with just a few braves souls left standing.

Then the strangest thing happened - steph woke me up at around 5 in the morning because we were both passed out in the back of my car which we found somewhat befuddling. Later that morning after sleeping in a bed for while, we had brunch at the Buff, then I headed back to Milo to do some homework. Steph came over later and we watched Run Fatboy Run which was OK, then a bit of SNL, which had the main Mad Men man as the host.

Sunday, I cranked out my paper by 3pm, went for a run, watched the first season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, then steph made some squash soup and we watched the season finale of Mad Men.

I slept like crap sunday night, and was tired most of the day, but luckily rallied before class. The topic was capacity, and the teacher brought in a bunch of peanut butter, jelly, and bread, and we all created companies and had to figure out how to produce as much as possible, for the least amount of money, etc. After class I headed to the Hi-Dive for the Parts & Labor gig. Fucking amazing show. The 30-40 of us in attendance were treated to a solid hour of bombastic raw energy. They have a new drummer and an additional guitarist which changes the dynamic a bit so the keyboardist can devote 100% the keys. Their old drummer was a maniac on the skins, but the new vibe is still very cool, like an indie rock version of Rush or something. I chatted them up a bit before their set and here's a fun fact - their knob-twiddling effect peddle keyboard sound is indeed inspired by bagpipes. Holla!

denver marathon

Up bright and early sunday to head in denver to watch steph & jacq compete in their first ever full marahons. Met up with everyone downtown near the finish to chear them on. After the ladies finished the race we all celebrated with some champgne, then headed to the Wykoop Brewery for some lunch. Immediately following that I had to head down to colorado springs. Steph met me down at my hotey, then we went down to the Broadmore to set up the booth. Afterwards we ordered in and watched the last game of the Red Sox season.

now it's over

Well, it was fun while it lasted. At least now that the Rays are in the series I can pawn off this stupid cowbell I got down in Tampa a few years back.

it's not over, not over, not over yet

TBS flubbed first inning coverage - I was flummoxed to be watching bloopers hosted the decrepit corpse of dick clark followed by the amazingly frightening on mute steve harvey show. But the Sox eeked out another win by the Rays tonight!!! Those cowbells are the suck though. A couple years ago, me & starr were down at Tropicana Field for a Red Sox game when it was cowbell night.

w00t! Varitek's first hit of the series was a homer:

P.S. Josh Brolin is the older brother in Goonies for the win! And, Palin just got schooled by preggers Poeller weekend update stylee, and I don't think she realized it...

stayin' alive

Wow - last night's amazing comeback win almost makes up for the two embarrasing games from monday & tuesday where the Red Sox basically forgot to show up! Let's hope they stole tampa's thunder and can keep this streak going...

autumn leaves

Took steph out to dinner friday night for her birthday. We went to Via Toscana, tucked away in a louisville strip mall. Very unassuming, yet delicious food! We drank martini's, and feasted on muscles and caprisi salad for aps. For an entrée, steph had procsuitto wrapped chicken breast stuffed with sausage & roasted red pepper and I had baked egglplant. I was even lucky enough to have a fly land in my almost finished dirty martini, because hey - I got another one comped. We went back to my place for desert, presents, and the rest of the red sox game (a win!).

Saturday morning was cold & rainy, but we went ahead with our plan to hit up the pumpkin patch off 287. They let you drive out into the fields and clip your own pumpkin from the vine which is pretty nifty, and muddy.

Here's our pick - big and warty since we aren't carving it this year:

The rest of the day I did homework until the sox game, which was a brutal extra inning loss. Sunday was pretty much homework all day, finishing up just in time for Mad Men.

You will either thank me or curse me for this one:

homework & baseball

The title pretty much sums it up. I did a lot of homework writing a paper all weekend, and watched the red sox/angels games friday & sunday. I did take a break saturday night to watch another dismal CU loss over at steph's. It was pretty embarrassing - three missed field goals kind of says it all. We left about midway to get some dinner at Juanita's which was festive, then watched SNL and Heavy Metal Parking Lot (still such a classic!). I had class monday, so I missed the red sox finally beat the angels. I'm still waiting on our team's grade for that paper since a lot of this week's individual assignment is based off that work blah blah etc... did I bore you yet?

Go Sox!
