my friday valentine

Picked up some grinders with steph at the moose drool on the way home from work, and then headed into denver. We hit some stopped traffic on 36 due to an accident. At first I thought it was nuggets traffic, but there was no game yesterday - duh. The Fillmore was much calmer than it was last week for Thievery cluster - no beer lines and we were able to get pretty close to the stage comfortably. Ambient folk drone wizards Brightblack Morning Light opened the show, and although they were cool, they almost put us to sleep. Next up was a delightful 30-minute acoustic set by Lilys frontman, Kurt Heasley. Both openers were actually a surprise since there were none ever mentioned. When My Bloody Valentine took the stage it was quite obvious why they were handing out complimentary earplugs at the merch booth. MBV provided a sonic assault of reverb-laden guitrons for the next hour and a half and finished with a staunch wall of sound during 'you made me realise' that Phil Spector would be envious of. Thanks again to Coachella for bringing a european act to the states so they could play a few extra shows out west before heading home.

thievery communikey

Another massive srping storm rolled in thursday, which was mostly rain but eventually turned into sleet on our 6 block walk to the sold out Thievery Corporation show at the Fillmore. It was packed and humid inside, but the Thievery came correct with a full live band - including drums, bass, guitar, sitar & horns, longside a handful of singers. The beer lines were redonk, but I found one where I could watch the show while I waited at least. Here's a more in-depth review with pix from the Denver Post.

The rain kept up all night and turned to snow friday. It only started to stick later in the day due to the shear volume falling from the sky. I headed to steph's after work and she made a killer 'tater skin' pizza and we watched some movies. Saturday I headed back to the paper mill. Steph came over later for some dark & stormy's and dinner at Waterloo. Sunday morning, the sun came out, I finished up my paper, then we rode bikes to civic plaza for the outdoor Communikey fest.

We left after a while and headed to the foundry rooftop for some food particles. Here's our receipt which itemized each individual 25ยข wing:

easter

Friday we chillaxed at steph's. She had a run saturday morning and I went home to work on a paper. Later on we met up with jacq & andy at mountain sun for some burgs & brews. Sunday was easter, and we had to go to curch. We got there late so we had to sit in the basement for the spillover crowd with the young priest who kept talking about lord of the rings. Then we had brunch at hillside. It was kind of cruddy weather so we were confined indoors. Later on I finished working on my paper while steph visited her sis.

another dump

Steph had swim practice again friday, so I swung by the food & bevvy store then hung out at the bear for a while until she was done. We had some food and watched some tele. Steph was originally supposed to run a time trial saturday morning, but it was cancelled since it had snowed quite a bit recently, so we headed up to A-Basin to get in what will prolly be the last turns of the season. A ton of fresh had fallen and was still coming down most of the morning. Ski Jam was in effect, but with seemingly reduced numbers - they did have a wedding ceremony though. Stopped at Kermit's on the way home for some chili. Later on we headed to hillside for a turkey dinner meg had prepared. Sunday was homework day.
