down to gorky park

You'd think the ocean had dried up or something. More like an extended lunch break or drowning rescue here at the Beach - no worries. As I flip between the state of the union and the gillmore girls (scarily watching this more than that), I realize I don't really have an excuse. Save for adjusting to a bizarre schedule of classes for my new pursuit of an MBA(!). Last weekend I did homework friday and saturday, with some free time thrown in to catch up on 4 eps worth of the OC game, even though we only made it through two before watching a boatload of classic heavy metal videos, the 40-year virgin, and james blunt on SNL (thanks to all of those that played 'what's the name of that one scorpions song').

It's been a while, but I now recall that class takes up a lot of time, especially when you're required to participate in daily newsgroups and you're still relying on your neighbor's dodgey free wireless access. My new cable modemn arrives tomorrow so I won't have to concoct my responses while watching the tele, then go back to the office and post them. I can do it all while watching tele now!

refreshment session

Welcome to the first edition of my soon to be regular beer reviews. This week we have the aptly named Session by Full Sail Brewery, Hood River, OR. I enjoy most all of the Full Sail line which consists of mainly ales, and their old surf/snowboard label motifs (which were all recently changed, however - neither here nor there I suppose). I discovered these 11oz. stubbys in a plain cardboard 12 pack on the bottom shelf at the store below all the regular 6 packs. It's Full Sail's first lager (5.1%), and goes down quick & smooth. Great for roadies on the way home from an epic session on the slopes (herher!) Added bonus: under each cap is a picture of either rock, paper, or scissors which = endless fun.

big day coming

It seems like Jacquie and Dylan's wedding was such a big hit with their photographer that he has put up several pictures of the big day up on his own site. He even went so far as to submit photos to the Longshore Inn where the reception was held, and to the Knot (printed version) for an upcoming feature on weddings in the Northeast area.

mlk weekend

Kelli flew into town friday evening for a visit, and we kicked off the weekend with some dinner at the redfish, where skye's band was playing. Hadn't seen them in a while, and we even got a 'possum'.

Gave kelli the grand tour de boulder early saturday which included a hike in settler's park and some shopping along pearl street. Got back to my place to prepare a panini feast and it soon became the pre-party headquarters for the medeski martin & wood show. At the broncos/pats halftime it was time to head to the sink (our increasingly obvious choice for pre-fox revelry) and finish watching the game, which denver oh so won. The MMW show was nice and upbeat, and long. Long enough in fact to go accross the street, scarf a few slices, and return...

boykins to berthoud

Sure it was a harsh 114-112 overtime loss, but boy was it an exciting game sitting in the 2nd row at the pepsi can. Steph was kind enough to sort us out with the seats, and we did our best to return the favor with drinks & dance at the 9th door post game.

nugs

Took it easy saturday with jacq & dyl by hitting up pearl street and mowing down at the mtn. sun before taking in memoirs of a geisha, which was certainly visually pleasing even though a little pokey in spots. Got back early enough to catch the end of the pats' victory over jax (unfortunately NE plays denver next, which leaves me kind of torn even though a denver win would suggest more parties...)

Woke up before dawn, and had an epic day at mary jane with kerr & derr, starting with the empire coffee shop's miraculously delicious breakfast burritos. It started snow near Idaho Springs and kept up all day. Derr gave us an insider's tour of the things off the beaten path, and We probably rode two marked trails the whole day. Gotta remember the lawn chairs next time...

a world in white gets underway

In what's beginning to evolve as a tradition of sorts, I 'moved' into robert & angie's hut over the weekend in readiness for another denver nye. We balked on riding saturday, as one beer followed another late into friday night longside jason and jordan. It was probably just as well, since we had to rest up for the double party facing us later that evening. I say double because it turns out that robert's b-day also falls on the 31st of december.

eat up

We joined up with devin & kim for a damn fine dinner and bold portions of sake at the sushi den before cabbing it over to vinyl.

dress up

Some big name dj was spinning the main room, but we made a point to call the rooftop homebase where 80's music was the flavor of the night. The fireworks over denver looked like some punk kid was shooting roman candles out of his high rise window, but it could have been our vantage point.

rage on

It didn't really matter because our crew certainly had the most fun. New year's day my new home away from home was host to a fine meal of black-eyed peas, mustard greens, cornbread, and of course some bloody marys, before I finally meandered back west on 36.

Awoke bright and early monday and headed to copper with paul for a great day on the slopes. The xmas break crowds had packed up and the heavens had graced us with a handful of fresh the day before. It was the perfect to unwind from a whirlwind weekend and look ahead to the coming year.
