sound tribe sectional couch 8 years later bass guitar

On the road at 5.30 saturday to A-Basin. GW & I met up with dylan at the open space lot on 93 where the winds were so fierce that one gust yanked his board off the roof, snapping one of his rack arms off before slamming into the fence. Thank goodness for the fence, otherwise his board would have gone right into oncoming traffic on 93. Since his roofrack was now busted I drove the rest of the way. Got to the basin early enough to get a beach spot, and have a leisurely breakfast. Spent most of the day riding the Pali lift, before heading back to the Montezuma Bowl to check out the new terrain. The backside was a series of chutes that emptied out into a valley, with several dense tree croppings. The other side was kind of open, and the trails all continued past the bottom of the lift, if you were so inclined to hike back out.

We hit the road by noon since we were heading into denver to catch the 2nd STS9 show at the fillmore that night. Earlier in the week we made reservations for a room at the Ramada just 4 blocks away. We checked in, had a round of bevys, and then walked to Los Margarita's for dinner, home of that huge marg. The show was sold out, and we headed inside in time to catch the Pharcyde (what was left of them) open. After their set, the venue began to fill up pretty quickly while the Postal Service was being pumped over of the PA. And then Sound Tribe hit the stage on a mission. Murph and the boys came correct with one of the most intense shows of theirs I've been witness to. Saxton had some fun new lighting columns on stage, and did a splendid joerb with the lights. They played a lot of newer material, all of it pretty wicked stuff. It was an extremely mashed-up crowd and despite a couple of noodle heads, a great vibe on the night. Afterwards we walked back to the hotey room, careful not to get run over crossing the street, and drank some beers. At one point we were jamming out to Quantum Wallpaper and some kids knocked on the door and wanted to join our 'party'. I had to tell him we were going to bed to get rid of them. A little while later on a trip get ice from the vending room, I saw cops with drug dogs at the other end of the hallway - those crazy wookies, always causing trouble! Setlist:

Set 1: 118, Rent, Peoples*, 303 Improv*, ABCees (King Pharoah tease), Dem Be, The Rabble
Set 2: Lo Swaga, Aimlessly, Move My Peeps, Block Variation*, Arigato, Instantly

Encore: Rocket*>Hubble

* = with Richard Devine

(Hop on an AUD, FOB torrent of the show over at COTapers, or check out the SBD at sts9music)

Came home sunday, took a nap. Then cleaned up the hut since we were hosting the fam for meg's 60th birthday - the 'Forever 59' party. Stephanie helped paul prepare the spring chicken, then pretty much ran the show with the rest of the meal which turned out swimmingly - kudos!

gracin the basin

Jacq & Gw came over friday night and we watched silly entertainment shows and hit the hay around 10.30. The next morning, GW swung by at 5.30 and we headed to the hills, stopping off in Golden to pick up Kelley. We were making good time until we were halfway over Loveland pass and C-Dot blocked off the road with a plow forcing us to turn around due to severe white out conditions. So we had to go the long way through the tunnel and into to Dillon to get to A-Basin, which derailed us for about an hour. The conditions were fantastic despite the windchill factor at the summit. Some of the best powder caches of the day were over around Standard and International. While waiting in line for the Pali, we saw this guy rocking chrome skis, cargo pants, and the jacket pictured below. Unfortunately the new Montezuma Bowl was closed due to poor visibility and wind, but according to reports it still needed some more snow anyway. Got back in town around 3 and was completely wiped out. Stephanie made a killer dinner then we watched 300. Sunday was chill, ran some errands in the AM, then GW came over and we watched the NFL playoff games the rest of the day. Go Pats!

boogie down / vail

Went to the Fox last thursday with GW & steph to check out J Boogie. It wasn't very crowded, likely due to students not being back in town yet. STS9 lighting protege, saxton, opened up with an hour of runnin yet faceless d&b which mainly served as background for his dorkin MC who went on & on the entire set, except when it was saxton's turn to go on & on. J. boogie's set started out strong, but it was nothing earth shattering towards the end so we split. Friday was pretty casual, and I actually had a great night's sleep before getting up at 4.30 to head to vail. The mountains were getting dumped all week long, and most of the rest of colorado were at vail as well for the foot plus of new snow. The great conditions eventually gave way to logistical nightmares as we met up with people, got seperated from people, and then had to leave due to steph wacking out her knee (turns out to be a sprained MCL and a torn miniscus - boo). That night I had the gang over to watch the patriots continue their undefeated season. Sunday was pretty chill, just watched more games, and got some interestink news from jacq.

dillinger escape plan / a casual night out

Was having a couple of brews last friday with GW when we decided to check out this strangely located dive bar not far from my place called Dillinger's. It's in a strip mall with a gas station and a liquor store. There was some cover band butchering classic rock songs, so we sat out on the atrium/patio type area away from everybody. And that's when the 'lovely lady' at the other end of the bar bought greg a pbr draft. The waitress brought it out to him and used those words. The potential prospects at the bar were a fright, many of them possible grannys. And so the bartender returns, this time with two pbr drafts. Whoever it was started hedging their bets I guess. We polished those off and split before we were forced to engage in any niceties with oddities.

bang bang

Saturday night steph & I met up with GW at the Casa for dinner. We discovered a game room in the basement with old arcade games. I was rocking some Super Mario Bros - I still have the melody stuck in my head. Then we played some air hockey until we kind of broke it. We were dying to go out and do something but there wasn't much going on. We almost cashed in our chips, until jacq called who was all ready and raring to go. I made a round of coffee and we headed into boulder. We tried out the brand new shotski steph made and then headed to pearl street and settled on 7 as our destination. We danced to the dj who was kind enough to play all of jacq's requests. Somehow we caught a clinger who followed us to the scumdowner. We just couldn't shake him until jacq displeased the staff with her cookie tossing and they made us all leave. Ahhhh, a casual evening on the town. Crashed out at jacq's then pretty much vegged on sunday until steph & I went to a twilight showing of Juno which was enjoyable, but occasionally too cute/clever at times. The Moldy Peaches were featured heavily on soundtrack, but I was kind of bummed they didn't work in 'Who's Got the Crack' somehow.

nye 07/08

I had been putting off this post in hope of adding some pix, but the only camera we had was fuentes' and it was left at the party, so here we go sans photos. Maybe I'll add some later if they ever turn up.

Got out of work around 3 and headed over to jacq's for some pre-party festivities. Essentially watched some bowl games and had some brews and pizza as the rest of the revelers trickled in. From there we headed to cheri & keith's new house for the party after picking up a case of redbull. Jake and his buddy john were running the sound, and ableton live was in the mix. Man, that is a very hip product, and seemingly easy enough to use once you get all your choons loaded up. I vaguely recall a countdown and then all of the sudden it was 3am and we were the last one's still there. The soundsystem had been disassembled and everyone had left or gone to bed. We eventually made it back to jacq's and after a brief sleep I made one of the leftover take n' bake pizzas for breakfast and woke everyone up. New year's day was spent mostly sleeping - zzzzzz.
