into the weekend

Met up with jacq right after work for a quick celebratory drink before heading off to evergreen with steph to visit her mom and drop off a desk. We had dinner at the local mexican joint, then pretty much called it a night. Already halfway to the slopes, we headed to a-basin the next morning at a casual hour. It was pretty cold and snowy when we arrived, but it must have been warmer during the week because the conditions were mostly crusty. We explored the mountain for some rideable terrain to no avail, and decided to pack it in for likely our last day of the season.

end of season

Later that afternoon we headed to steph's so she could finish up some packing. We arrived just as heidi had finished putting out the fire she started when candle met mamasan cushion:

how'd it get burned

On the way out of town we stopped by jacq's for some 'secret recipe' marg action in the early evening. After we wet our whistle we continued on to my place and passed out watching Margot at the Wedding which was almost as boring as the title suggests. Woke up hungry and just made the cut off for some chinese take-out in downtown lafayette.

Sunday we grabbed a bite at big daddy's, picked up the rental truck, moved steph out of her old place and into the new one all by noonish - woot! After we returned the truck, we rode bikes down to the southern sun for some well deserved lunch. GW & lisa met up with us there for a drink and some general merriment. On the ride back to bear mountain steph & I hit up the thrift store for some discount duds. We capped off the day with Into the Wild, the story of Emory alum, Alexander Supertramp, and his post graduation pilgrimage across america into the alaska wilderness - great movie!

robot rock

Kraftwerk is one of this weekend's headliners at Coachella. Although I won't be making the treck out to Indio, I was lucky enought to catch one of 3 U.S. warm-up shows at the fillmore last night with GW.

kraftwerk tour

There was a large curtain set up behind the soundboard effectively cutting the venue size in half (likely due to low ticket sales). And they also threw up some extra PA's in the back, but there weren'y really any surround-sound type effects that I was aware of. The set lasted an hour and 40 minutes and touched on all the classics. It should be noted that Stefan Pfaffe (their video guy) was subbing in for founding member Florian Schneider for unknown reasons. My favorite was when Ralf would sing vocals into his headset he also put his hand over his mouth like he was shouting something - classic. Their understated stage demeanor was augmented by classicly dated visuals. I highly recommend catching a kraftwerk show if you are a fan of any type of electronic based music, as their influence still permeates throughout the genre to this day.

fun sucks

Last friday we were supposed to meet some of steph's co-workers on top of the rio, but when we showed up they were not allowing any more people on the roof since they had reached capacity. So we headed over to the bacaro rooftop instead, shared a pitcher of sangria, and had some tapas. After a while we were able to sync up with her co-workers and they moved the party to the attic where we played tabletop sports games, drank and ate more. Eventually we walked back to steph's and hit the hay, stopping only at the ever unnecessary scumdowner along the way where steph proceeded to crack me up.

too funny

Saturday morning steph had somewhere to be rather early, and after she left I did my best to sleep off the night. On the way back to milo, I headed to moe's to grab some breakfast where I suffered a nightmarishly long wait along with the rest of hungover boulder. Then GW swung by, we packed up our bikes, and headed over to a new trailhead we discovered over off mccaslin in superior. It was a fun trail starting out with a double track climb until it reached the boulder line and turned into windy singletrack all the way to 93. We rode for about an hour and didn't make it all the way to 93 because GW was having tire issues. After we got back we headed over to jacq's to help her finish off some sangria and orderves left over from her wine club earlier in the week. Then it was off to becky's for a nice casual afternoon keg & Q. At some point I realized it was record store day and I had the urge to support so me and GW headed to bart's and I bought a bunch of obscure 7 inches. Upon checking out I received a gift bag full of massively random stuff such a shot glass, cd wallet, a handful of promo compilations, a beer coozy, and an elvis watch making the trip totally worth it. By the time we got back to the party our burgers were done, shots were poured and we delighted in drawing on each other because 'fun sucks'.

Sunday I woke up spinning. Steph and I rode bikes down to foolish craig's for brunch, did a little shopping on pearl then headed over to the park across from bmoca to meet up with jacq for the communikey tea party in the park. The weather was great until a forest fire engulfed settler's park in the foothills around 2.30. Then it was kind of smokey the rest of the afternoon, but we still had a hoot hanging out with our various friends that had since joined us. The tunes were still bumpin just after 4.20-ish when steph & I rode back to her place then headed over to hillside for spaghetti, meatballs, and the john adams finale. Monday I was wiped.

ski jam a.k.a. TSSP

Had a chill friday after work. Steph came over and made a delicious mexican style dish. Saturday we headed to a-basin early so we could get a parking spot for the notorious ski jam that was off the hook last year. The crowds didn't seem as bad when we got there, and it looked like about only half of the festivities as we witnessed previously - specifically the flat bed truck with bands along with the new addition of functioning hot tubs going by the name of TSSP. Missing were the dj's, tiki huts, and living room furniture that were located at the other end of the lot. As it turns out, they are indeed two separate parties that happened to be on the same weekend last year. We partook in the revelries briefly after we Q'ed out in the lot, but spent most of the day on the slopes because the conditions were mint.

Later that evening we met up with folks celebrating heidi's b-day at bacaro, before eventually ending up at a kegger thrown by one of wesson's friend's parents in a house they rented for the weekend. Silliness ensued.

later on

Sunday was spent cleaning milo for the appraiser coming wednesday so I can re-fi. Later on, we headed to hillside for dinner and the second to last ep of John Adams.

morweekend

Thursday I whipped up a cuban feast for steph consisting of cuban sandwiches, plantains, and dark n' stormys, all to some Buena Vista Social Club mood music. Then we watched the last 2 eps of the first season of Dexter. Looking forward to season 2!

Friday we headed to the Gothic for the Morcheeba show I had scored some passes to earlier in the week. It was a pretty good show - they have a new singer but she seemed to know all the words at least. The crowd was older - a bunch of aged hipsters or su'in. On the way home I was starving so we stopped at a taco yell which I haven't done in quite some time. I got a 1/2 pound bean & cheese burrito for $1. I'm still not sure how I feel about that.

morcheeba

Saturday morning we braved mr. white's wild ride and made it to onto the slopes at Beaver Creek around 11-ish. It was the last of the mountains our pass is good at which we hadn't been to yet. The morning started off dodgy - although they had a couple of feet during the week, it was warm friday creating a bit of a crust in spots, and visibility was poor due to falling snow. But a bit later on we found some prime runs along the Grousse Express and rode those until we split for the day.

That night steph and & I planned to take it easy, having a casual dinner at mountain sun. There we bumped into rizzo and some of her teacher friends who were celebrating her birthday. So after we were done eating we joined them, and relocated to connor o's for another round or two. Somehow I am now the proud owner of an old fashioned iron.

No rest for the wicked, jacq & GW came over to my place sunday morning for a little brunch before we headed off to catch the Rockies play the Diamondbacks in the third game of their home opener series. The rox blew their lead towards the end and my forearms are sunburned, but we did get to see the NL champs ring ceremony.

After the game, steph & I picked up some pizzas at pulcinea express and headed to hillside for the next installment of John Adams which focused on his somewhat uneventful vice presidency.

dex knows

Last friday we took it easy. Steph made pork tenderloins and we watched a bunch of Dexter episodes. I'm completely hooked on this show now. The freaky thing about watching an entire season of a TV show in a much shorter period of time is that it kind of enters your subconscious. And this is a pretty creepy show to have do that...

dexter

Saturday we got off to a later start as a spring time experiment. After picking up GW & my dad, we were on our way by about 8.45. Unfortunately the pass was closed so we had to go through the tunnel and double back through Dillon which delayed us a bit. Luckily we still found parking in the uppermost lot. The day started out snowy, but eventually cleared up. Got back to town, ate some leftovers then headed to a party at renn's house. He had a nice spread, and we hung out for a bit before some hippie chick started arguing with me about how the dental mishap was my fault. OK. Then we went out downtown - danced at Seven for a while and then had a round at the scumdowner and called it a night.

Sunday steph whipped up some sweet breakfast burritos, and we watched more Dexter (almost done with season 1) before heading to the movies to see The Other Boleyn Girl. After that we had dinner at hillside and watched John Adams. Lots of watching on sunday I guess.
