the rest part two
Had a layover at hartsfield, which was convenient as jay was on my connector to tampa. Both flights went smoothly - no snakes. Our host for the weekend, deaner picked us up and it was off to a beach bar after our drive over the now infamous tampa lake. After devouring a boiled burrito we opted to call it a night.
Thursday we had deaner's truck so we tooled around st. pete, starting with a breakfast pizza at Ricky T's, checking out cheesy souvenir shops along treasure island, paying a visit to the salvador dali museum (they had the white lobster telephone!), and hitting up several kash & karrys, and another pizza joint for lunch. I was pretty stoked on the NY influence down in FLA, in so much as it provided good pizza on most every corner. Later that evening we picked up deaner at channel 8, and got a tour of the station. We even got to see the weatherman we were making fun of on tv earlier in the day. Went to the wharf for what sememd like bottomless drinks and a prime rib dinner.
Dean took friday off, and the three of us went to moderra beach for some fun in the sun, which eventually turned into a thunderstrom, but it was probably good timing. Caught up with frances at a cool little pub in downtown st. pete, had another pizza, then made tarcks to tropicana field for the red sox / devil rays game. Got there early enough to see johnny pesky signing autographs, play a round of baseball jeoprody, pet some actual devil rays, and watch the red sox batting practice. Had some great seats up behind home plate in some kind of fan section. Schilling and the sox eeked out a 3-2 win (the only one of that series), largley thanks to two home runs courtesy of david ortiz. Headed over to some insanely large sports pub accross from the stadium post game, and managed to sqeeze 7 people in the car for the ride home.
Saturday we took the boat out to shell key island, which is a hot spot where everyone drops anchor and parties down. The captain was in full effect as we floated around on pool noodles and looked for seashells. On our way back to the wharf for another drink before heading to the reef for dinner, we spotted some dolphins.
It was great to see jay again, and dean & frances were great hosts, even though they didn't have any snakes.
