iron & snow

What was meant to be a casual friday evening turned into a crazy few hours as we partook in some happy festivities in celebration of GW's b-day. A couple of gordons from the kitchen upstairs and 3 rio margs, and a frozen pizza later I found myself asleep on my couch by 10-ish. The original plan was to sync up with greg back at his place, but I never quite made it. The rest of the gang ended up in various states back at jacq's.

Good thing it was an early night because the next morning we all had to help lauren move into her new place. It had been snowing all night and continued on throughout the move, but with the help of a budget truck we were done by early afternoon. The steph came over and we headed to denver to catch Iron & Wine at the paramount. The drive in took an hour longer than usual - the roads were horrible and everyone was driving slow, which was certainly practical though. We anticipated the delay and still had plenty of time to grab some dinner at rock bottom. The paramount is a sit-down theatre and we had nabbed 2nd row center tickets which were killer. Then out of nowhere one half of Devotchka (Nick & Tom) took the stage as the opener - quite a surprise as they were not originally on the bill. They put on a great performance of stripped-down material. Iron & Wine had been traveling as a full band on this tour, but apparently the snow hindered their drive from salt lake the night before, and only Sam Beam made it and treated us to a solo show covering a good portion of his catalog quite masterfully.

Got home to sleep by 1am, then woke up 3 1/2 hours later to sync up with the guys and head to A-Basin. GW picked me up with kahlua coffees in hand and then we swung by dylan's and we were on the road by 5.30, which was instrumental in avoiding I-70 traffic which had been bogged down right before the tunnel where they were down to one lane for emergency bridge repairs. Parked on the beach at 7.30 and had plenty of time for breakfast. A great first day with plenty of dumps had us worn out and on the road home by noon or so.
