industry standard
Here's my {mostly} blow by blow of this year's grammys:
I tuned in mid-way through madonna's disco song, and realized that I may have missed the 'collaboration' with the gorillaz. Madonna and her dancers did a good job of doing the madonna thing.
The chem bros. picked up a pair of golden paperweights before the televised bit, and the white stripes grabbed the best alternative trophy.
We came this much closer to the appocolypse when kelly clarkson picked up an award.
Next up U2 junior played a song, and it was unremarkablty colplayish.
What the f is it with country that makes the singers induce such a grating tone to their singing, southern accent or not - it's bitterly awful. However textbook the genre winds up being these days (i.e. - gretchen wilson), the best country grammy actually went to a deserving album that does the genre some justice - allison krauss and union station's 'lonely runs both ways'.
And then U2 did the U2 thing, which sequed nicely between vertigo and one with a brief beatles nod. Then maya rudolph started with her funny diva impersonation, which had me in stitches.
David Bowie won a lifetime achievment award without fanfare, or david bowie I might add. And then kayne west won something and I was quickly reminded that I've pretty much been disenchanted with these bloated awards ever since the 1989 showing when jethro tull beat out 'and justice for all' and 'nothing's shocking' for best metal album.
Oh well, at least lost is new tonight...
