president's day massacre

Began another low-key weekend by celebrating v-day with stephanie a day late partially because I was hard at work on a paper wednesday, but mostly because I took her to the sold out Shins show at the fillmore on thursday. We mowed some dinner in the car, then headed in. The first opener, the granimals, was pretty boring. The lead singer was preggers, and pretty far along by the looks of it. Viva Voce was up next, and they were kind of a reverse white stripes. The guy was on drums, keys and sometimes guitar all the while still playing drums. And the lady was the main voice and guitarist. They were pretty cool. Shins were up next, and they came correct. The first half of the show was mostly the new material, then about halfway through they kicked it with all the older stuff, including my fave, 'know your onion'. Picked up some cheese steaks on the way home for our romantic v-day dinner.

Tried our hands at rock climbing at one of those indoor climbing gyms friday after work. I'm not stoked on the whole ropes & boles and such, so I stuck to bouldering. Damn that's a tough workout.

Up bright and early saturday to head for the hills since they were getting dumped on. We made it all the way to the tunnel, and were about a half mile from it, then suddenly they close it. So we sat on the I-70 parking lot for about an hour until they reopened it. Loveland pass was closed too, which sucked because we were headed to a-basin which is just on the other side of it. Despite the silly traffic we were on the slopes by 9. The back side of a-basin was painfully windy, but there was plenty of fresh powder to enjoy the frontside on. Epic day. Took a nap when I got home, then started getting ready for the 'bloody valentine' party. After I grabbed us some food, I was all ready to plug in the jbl monitors on loan from 3rd street, when I discovered that a 1/4" jack would not cut it. I needed a frickin neutrik connector, which I could have easily picked up at the guitron center, but it was closed along with every other store in town that may have had 'em. So we just used my trusty pair of klipsch. We went sans turntables for the first time, using jake's cdj800's exclusively. Those things are idiot proof and way fun to play on. The party was a throwdown, and somehow we still have a ton of beer leftover, probably because all of the hard liquor was consumed instead.

The crew crashed at my place and we all slept in sunday morning, before heading back to edgewood for brunch. The weather was gorgeous and once we cleaned up, steph & I rode our bikes down to pearl street where we met up with dyl, jacq & jean at the mountain sun. After stops at the west end and bacaro, somehow we ended up going back to bacaro after closing since the ladies had befriended the bartender earlier. We pretty much helped ourselves to anything we wanted behind the bar until the wee hours when the bartender grabbed a few bottles of wine for the walk back to my hut, where I promptly passed out. When we woke, stephanie had disappeared only to return later that afternoon after waking up on someone's couch somewhat disoriented as to how she happened to end up there.

Ahhh, another par for the course weekend.

Although late, we are finally having a decent season at our local mountain range. 40 inches just this past week alone. I have been going up there every weekend since it finally got cold enough. Its a 4 hour drive from the city, so its always a weekend event. Check out the site, www.goremountain.com
Not as good as what you got, but its definately the best kept secret in the adirondikes
