four reviews

holly go-lightly - My First Holly Go-Lightly Album: The irony here is that this is indeed my first Holly Go-lightly album. She could easily front the band plaing in the background of any given Taratino film, in so much as she is somewhat of a modern day Nancy Sinatra-esque type figure. This is the music playing in the diner scene set in the southwestern desert from that cool indie film you just saw at Sundance.

nirvana - Sliver, Best of the Box: Would have been great if it came out 10 years ago. But a bunch of poorly recorded demos & alternate versions of songs is pretty unnecessary. As the title suggests, this is an abridged of the 3 disc debaucle that came out last year, but also includes 3 additional unearthed tracks. Someone needs to fuel their drug habit, or more hopefully, pay for francis bean's impending college education. Let it go, man.

babyshambles - Down in Albion: Releasing a track entitled 'fuck forever' as the first single kind of sums up Pete Doherty's self-destructive raison d'etre. With a girlfriend as infamous as Kate Moss at your side, what else would you want to do? The fact that it will never be played on the radio is either a clever stunt or he really just doesn't care. More than likely it's both. This isn't nearly as horrible as I thought it would be, coming from the embodiment of a drunk crack head wreck of a man. Not surprisingly, it sounds a lot like his former band, the Libertines, who wear their Clash influences proudly on both sleeves.

fiery furnaces - Rehearsing My Choir: This album is narrated by one of their grandmothers, which makes this usually just annoying band bereft of anything remotely resembling redeeming .
